File Spy - View and Examine Files App Reviews

Opens and lets you view most files I have tried so far. Actually a pretty useful app would recommend over most others.

pre-existing command line tools are better. In addition, it (by default) gets installed as the default file handler, which means you have to “open with…” and do something else. Interesting idea, but the developer needs to survey existing practice.

Ever since I installed this app, it forcefully took over the default application ownership of all my MOVs, MKVs, and many multimedia files if not all file formats there has ever been.

It insists on trying to open EVERY file type it knows, so it becomes the jerk on your system who is always yelling “ooh I can do that!” even when you have the correct app oh, and it didn’t even open the file I downloaded it to open.

It does what it says it does, but apparently that means less than I thought it did.

Someone sent me a picture in a .pub format, so I couldn’t open it. I got this app to help, because all the publisher apps would have me paying piles of money to view one photo. When I opened the pic in this app, though, all it showed me was the icon, and info about the icon. What a waste. Who thought this was a good idea?

I used this once it it gave a poor reading of the file. I have deleted the app.

I am very disappointed in this app. It only identifies a very few apps. Glad it was free.

There should be a right click option. I don’t know why people rate this app low, it’s a preview app don’t expect it to open strange formats for you.
